During October Unst Leisure Centre hosted a new fitness challenge called ‘Mission UnstPossible’. They had 38 customers sign up from across Shetland and during the challenge participants had to complete 6 missions (Rookie, Chase, Enigma, Raid, Double Agent and Victory) at either Unst Leisure Centre, Yell Leisure Centre, Whalsay Leisure Centre or Clickimin Leisure Complex. Juniors were also allowed to sign up and complete their own mission which meant families could exercise together.

Each mission had a fitness element and a puzzle to complete within 5 days. The participants found unique ways to complete the challenges with some using water bottles for weights at home to others trying classes out for the first time or visiting new areas on the island during their walks.

When all 6 challenges were completed the participant received a unique Mission Unstpossible finishers medal.

Centre Manager, Matthew Cox said: “Mission Unstpossible created a new buzz around the centres, especially here in Unst where we saw a surge in gym usage with over 300 visits in October! Everybody who signed up to the challenge enjoyed the workouts and loved trying to figure out what the answers were to the puzzles. The aim of the challenge was to encourage customers and their families to exercise on a more regular basis but also have fun whilst doing it! We hope to see it again next year!”

Some participants gave this feedback about the challenge:

“It was great to do exercise as a family.”

“I really enjoyed trying new types of workout!”

“The challenge motivated me to go to the gym on the cold, dark nights.”
