Shetland Recreational Trust offers a wealth of health and fitness initiatives across all 8 of its centres.

You will find everything you need to work out, improve your fitness and enjoy the time you spend in our leisure centres. We believe exercise and relaxation is a fundamental key to maintaining a healthy lifestyle and we are here to help you achieve this.

We have fully equipped gyms and a wide variety of exercise classes. We also have a wide variety of activities from racquet and ball sports to swimming. You can find out about the sports and activities you can do in our Sports & Activities section.

We have something for everyone young and old experienced or beginner. Our friendly staff are on hand to help guide you towards achieving your fitness goals.


There are 6 gyms to choose from each offering an individual experience with some housing a range of fantastic state-of-the-art Technogym cardio and resistance equipment, not forgetting the superb Visio TV systems providing a platform to watch TV, play games, connect your ipod or iphone to listen to your personal playlist!

Our Fitness team hold Level 2 and above REPS authorised qualifications and are on hand to offer assistance, guide on the correct use of equipment and design personal programmes to meet individual goals.

Fitness Classes

Working out in a group fitness class will not only keep you motivated, it will challenge your ability and improve your fitness. We have a team of fully qualified and experienced instructors on hand to offer you advice and help you reach your ultimate fitness goals. Most of our centres offer health suite facilities, which can include sauna, steam room, spa pools. The heat offers ultimate relaxation and is great in helping the muscles and joints wind down or repair after a workout.

After winding down and let the stresses of everyday life disappear…enjoy a leisurely swim in our swimming pools.
