Shetland Recreational Trust operates 8 pools across Shetland, all of which offer a varied range of pool activities.Where can I do this?
All of our pools offer public swimming sessions which are open for all users. For times, please view each Centre's pool timetable.
Some of our pools offer lane swimming sessions within their pool timetables. These sessions are ideal for those looking to swim recreationally for fitness or training. For times, please view each Centre's pool timetable.
Child Swimming Lessons
Encouraging your child to learn to swim from a young age is one of the most important life skills you can give them and if they enjoy the water from a young age they will do so for the rest of their lives.
From August 2017 we'll be adopting the new National Framework for Swimming in Scotland which provides a clear set of national standards, as well as a pathway which allows you to follow how your child is progressing and what this actually means in terms of their swimming ability.
Watch the Scottish Swimming video below to learn more about the new Framework.
The new Framework is designed to teach children through fun, playing games and other activities in the pool that will help them learn core swimming skills such as breathing, submerging and moving in the water. Swimming strokes will be introduced gradually once your child has learned the basic core water skills and techniques. For more information on what is included within the Framework please click the link below:
All children currently attending swimming lessons will be assessed and mapped over to the new Framework levels once the current block has finished in July. Each SRT Facility will have its own arrangements in place for advising parents of the booking process for classes starting in August 2017, this may be through Facebook, E-mail or telephone.
Whatever your age, learning to swim should be fun! For some fun games you can do with your child in the pool, some essential water safety tips and a ‘meet the athletes’ section visit www.learntoswim.scot
All pools offer one-to-one swimming lessons. These lessons are designed to supplement group swimming lessons and are a great way to build water confidence or develop specific skills and techniques that might not be so easily achieved in a group lesson setting. Times may be restricted and may vary between centres, please contact your local centre to find out more or to book a lesson.
If you are planning a visit to one of our pools with a child under 8 years of age.
We offer these workout classes at South Mainland Pool on a Tuesday between 8-9pm. Please contact South Mainland Pool Reception for further details or to book.
Available at Clickimin Leisure Complex you can choose to enter into the 3.6m depth of water from either our 1m high springboard or 3m platform. These sessions are part of our swim programme and during these sessions the lane swimming is reduced to 16m lanes. Please look at Clickimin Leisure Complex’s pool timetable for available diving sessions.
All of our pools offer inflatable and fun sessions as part of their junior activity programme. Whether it is busy kids, Larry the Lobster, the Junior Challenge or the Dual Run these sessions are sure to be a hit with children of all ages. Please view our junior activity programmes for more details.
