Statement from Shetland Recreational Trust on Shetland Charitable Trust funding

June 11th 2015

Reacting to Shetland Charitable Trust’s announcement on future funding, Shetland Recreational Trust chairman Bryan Leask described the outcome as “mixed”.

Mr Leask said: “It is good news that Shetland Charitable Trust is going to continue funding us and the cuts that are to be made will come over a four-year period, giving us time to adapt and make any necessary changes.

“That said, the picture is mixed and we face a challenge in ensuring our centres are maintained to the standards our users have come to expect and in continuing to offer the services and facilities we currently provide.”

The Trust has asked staff to assess the potential impact of the cut and report back to a special meeting in August.

SRT is facing a cut of £740,000 between 2014 and 2020, more than 20 per cent of its budget.
